EOS is an operating system for a business. MEASURE × HACK™ is an operating system for a life, of which business is one corner.

That distinction is the whole design. A method aimed only at the business optimizes the business, and the people running those businesses tend to arrive somewhere successful and unlivable.

The two disciplines it is named for

Measure is the discipline of seeing what is actually true, rather than what you assume.

Hack is the discipline of finding the smallest change that produces the largest movement.

Neither is worth much alone. Measurement without a change to make is reporting. A change without measurement is a guess repeated confidently.

How the names fit together

These three words get used interchangeably in the wild, so here is the canonical version.

MEASURE × HACK™ is the method. It is the whole system, and it is what this site is about.

The Framework is the 5-step sequence at the center of the method: Vision, Strategy, Execution, Measure, Hack.

Those 5 steps are the disciplines. Measure and Hack are 2 of them, and they are the 2 the method is named for, because they are the 2 that most people skip.

So a term belongs to a discipline, a discipline is a step in the Framework, and the Framework sits at the center of the method. "The MEASURE × HACK™ method" is correct for the whole thing. "The Framework" means the 5 steps specifically.

What it runs across

The ME Triangle™ is the map: Personal, Relationship, Business.

The Three Elements are the resources it spends: Time, Money, and Energy.

Where it came from

The method was developed by W. Michael Hsu over 18 years of building and advising companies, and it applies the same five steps to all three corners of a life rather than to the business alone.
